Nathan Ellis is a former Army Captain and decorated military aviator who strives to mine from his unique life experiences to craft meaningful content for the screen. As a teen, it was Nathan’s passion for aviation and his desire to serve that drove him to earn an Army ROTC scholarship. Although getting selected for aviation service was no guarantee, upon graduation from college, Nathan was the Army's number-one cadet selected for flight training nationwide. After seven years on Active Duty service, to include a twelve month combat deployment to Afghanistan where he was awarded an Air Medal with Valor Device and a Bronze Star, Nathan felt he was finally ready to pursue his childhood dreams of becoming a professional filmmaker.
After fulfilling his service obligation, Nathan went on to earn his MFA from the USC School of Cinematic Arts, where his short films and screenplays won numerous accolades, to include Best Military Filmmaker (GI Film Festival), Best Narrative Short (GI Film Festival), Best Screenwriting (USC First Look), the Golden Angel Award (Chinese American Film Festival), Semi-Finalist (Student Academy Awards), and ranking top 50 out of over 5,000 screenplays in the Academy Nicholl Fellowships.
Most recently, Nathan released “Overclocked,” a feature length film made in the world of a video game, which garnered over two-hundred-thousand views in its first month online and has been highly praised, to include being personally lauded by the game’s developer, Cloud Imperium Games. Additionally, Nathan’s screenplay “Boundless,” inspired by the life of unsung Korean-American military veteran Susan Ahn Cuddy, has attracted a top-tier team that includes Nick Offerman (Parks & Rec), Ashley Park (Emily in Paris), and Kim Joo- Ryung (Squid Game) among its principal cast and his screenplay, "Highway to Hell," inspired by his experiences as a combat pilot in Afghanistan, is currently being packaged for production by Trap Door Cinema and Wonder Street Productions.
Although Nathan's ultimate passion is directing, he thoroughly enjoys many of the creative aspects in the filmmaking process and strives to create and develop character-driven, meaningful content of all genres, with a particular interest in stories about strong-female protagonists and military-related subject matter.
